Nasturtium
An edible flower, nasturtium is used as an ornamental salad ingredient and in stir-fry dishes. We plant it to provide color in our herb garden.
Yarrow
A perennial, yarrow was known in antiquity as herbal militaris, for its use in stopping the flow of blood from wounds. Other common names for this species include nosebleed plant, old man’s pepper, devil’s nettle, sanguinary, soldier’s woundwort, and thousand-seal.
Daylilies
Called “the perfect perennial,” daylilies are seen in a wide variety of colors, are tolerant of drought, and require very little care. Here in North Georgia they begin blooming in June. When hubby (who always refers to daylilies as “outhouse lilies”) was growing up in Indiana, daylilies didn’t bloom there until August, heralding the beginning of a new school year.
Cosmos
Cosmos is my husband’s favorite flower. He plants more every year in different parts of the garden.
