Who even knew that English ivy blooms? We have lived in this house for almost twenty years, with English ivy growing all along the small bank behind the house and climbing up the oak tree by the back garden. Never has it bloomed until this summer.
A little research revealed that flowers are produced in late summer and early fall and are rich in nectar that attracts bees and other insects. The fruit will be purplish-black berries that ripen in winter and are a food source for birds.
Magical!
