Writer’s Quote Wednesday: Ralph Ellison

Ralph Ellison

Ralph Ellison (1914-1994), whose birthday was March 1, was an American novelist, literary critic, and scholar.   He is best known for his novel Invisible Man, which explores the search for identity and place in society, as seen from the perspective of an unnamed black man in New York City during the 1930s.  It won the National Book Award in 1953.  Ellison also wrote Shadow and Act (1964), a collection of political, social and critical essays, and Going to the Territory (1986). A posthumous novel, Juneteenth, was published after being assembled from notes found after his death.

During his career, he also taught at Bard College, Rutgers University, and the University of Chicago.

This is such a lovely quote. I really understand what he is getting at. I am constantly digging back into my brain to produce descriptions and sensations so my readers will experience my writing through my eyes. It is a real sharing experience. ❤

    1. Thank you. I think all writers draw on their own experiences, good and bad, even if they don’t acknowledge that source.

I really love this theme. How are you getting your image to show as the header? Thanks.

    1. Thanks so much! I like this theme more than any I have tried out before. It allows me to set a featured photo for each post, and that photo shows as the header and as the image in my Facebook post. If I don’t want to set a featured photo, then my normal header image will show. Sometimes I have to crop the featured photo so that it shows properly in the header, though.

I really like the clean lines of it. I went back to the Edda theme. I like the fact that the menu is hidden showcasing my writing. I just have to remind people to check my menu! 😀 Great job on your blog. It looks awesome!!! ❤
