I’d Rather Be Happy!

I was thinking today about how wonderful the WordPress community has been during my almost-four-years of blogging.  When there are so many negative sentiments, even hateful and bigoted sentiments, expressed on social media today it is refreshing to read positive, uplifting, and beautiful posts by the bloggers I follow.  And readers who comment on my posts are always complimentary, kind and encouraging.

How refreshing!  And it makes me happy!

Although there is much that is bad in this world, I want to look for the positive, to be grateful for all the blessings in life, and to focus on all the beauty that surrounds me.  Because I’d rather be happy!

These three beautiful grandchildren are among my greatest blessings.

When I was in a major slump some years ago, the younger children in the school in which I taught performed a song titled I’d Rather Be Happy.  I had never heard it before that day, and it changed my attitude toward my own personal situation.  One little song helped me see that being happy is a choice. Now, even though it is a children’s song, I still love to listen to it.  Because I’d rather be happy!

I am determined to be cheerful and happy in whatever situation I may find myself. For I have learned that the greater part of our misery or unhappiness is determined not by our circumstance but by our disposition. (Martha Washington)

  1. I joined the blogging community last year because I missed writing so much, and needed an outlet. Reading posts by my favorite bloggers is an added bonus. And, I have to agree with you that grandchildren are WONDERFUL.

    1. Yes, I realize I didn’t even mention the reason I began blogging. I, too, wanted an outlet mainly for my photography. Then I began another blog to help me deal with my little grandson’s medical problems. Now, if I go even a few days without blogging I really miss it. Thank you for your comment!
