A Lovely Surprise

Yesterday at 9:30 in the morning we heard a knock on our front door, and there was our granddaughter from the Miami, Florida area (which is over 750 miles away) with a big smile on her face.

I was in another part of the house and my husband, even though he is an invalid as a result of a major stroke, got to the door before I did.  (We don’t often have people at the door in the mornings.)  When he saw who the visitor was, he threw his arms around her and literally sobbed with joy.

On an extended road trip from Miami to New York City, granddaughter Kylie is stopping periodically along the way to stay with friends.  She was due to be in South Carolina later in the day but detoured out of her way to visit us for a few hours.  And she brought chicken, fruit and cheesecake for us to have for lunch later!

We had a lovely visit. I hope our sweet granddaughter knows how much it meant to both of us, but especially to her grandfather who spends most of his days seeing no one but me. The visit was over much too soon, as Kylie left in the early afternoon on the next leg of her journey north. She will return to Florida sometime in August where she will begin her second year at the University of Miami.
