“In the twilight glow I see them
Blue eyes cryin’ in the rain
When we kissed goodbye and parted
I knew we’d never meet again “
Please don’t judge me. I never liked country music, but I love Willie Nelson. I was introduced to his music in 1975, the year he recorded “Blue Eyes Cryin’ in the Rain” on his album Red Headed Stranger. Written by Fred Rose, the song was originally recorded by Roy Acuff and later by artists such as Hank Williams, Slim Whitman, Bill Anderson, Hank Snow and Conway Twitty.
Prior to 1975, Willie Nelson primarily was known as a songwriter, but “Blue Eyes Cryin’ in the Rain” propelled him to stardom as a singer. It became his first Number One hit.
In the twilight glow I see them
Blue eyes cryin’ in the rain
When we kissed goodbye and parted
I knew we’d never meet againLove is like a dyin’ ember
Only memories remain
Through the ages I’ll remember
Blue eyes cryin’ in the rainSome day when we meet up yonder
We’ll stroll hand in hand again
In a land that knows no partin’
Blue eyes cryin’ in the rainNow my hair has turned to silver
All my life I’ve loved in vain
I can see her star in heaven

I promise to never judge anybody and Willie Nelson is a cool dude in my book. Is this video from a movie?

This is the official Willie Nelson music video for the song. Interesting, isn’t it? And different.

A lovely act of kindness…. Willie and you are kindred spirits Debra… I’m not a country fan either, but as for Waylon, Willie and the boys…. well, these fellas are a breed all there own. (i’m partial to Neil Young too, though when he gets really electric Fran asks me to turn his music down…or off.) My neighbor lent me Willie Nelson’s auto-biography… A fascinating story, of a fascinating life, of a fascinating person. Not without his foibles for sure…. but over all, a loving & caring human being.

I do like Neil Young, too. I don’t think of him as country. Funny, my ex brother-in-law (my sister’s ex husband) was a country music songwriter for several years, and I really liked his music.

Willie Nelson has had some really good songs. We had that album, and listened to it a lot. Got to see him perform in concert a couple of times.
