Blackberry Winter

Blackberry Winter is a term used in the American South to describe a cold snap in late Spring that coincides with the blooming of blackberry bushes. Sometimes we barely notice it, just a couple of days of cold weather amongst the warmth. But we know it has come and gone when the blackberries begin to bloom in earnest. And they’re blooming in profusion now in the woods and all along the roadsides.

“And the fruits will outdo what the flowers have promised.”

    1. Thanks, Arlene. These blackberry bushes are everywhere here. They grow wild along the roadsides.

    1. Yes, there will! When the blackberries ripen I eat them right off the bushes.

    1. So do I! Here we have to watch out for snakes that like to hide in the blackberry bushes.
