Hermann Hesse ( 2 July 1877 – 9 August 1962) was a German-born poet and novelist and the recipient of the 1946 Nobel Prize in Literature. His best known works explore the individual’s search for spirituality and self-knowledge and include Demian, Steppenwolf, The Glass Bead Game, and Siddhartha.
