Best remembered for his science fiction novels, H.G. Wells (21 September 1866 – 13 August 1946) was a British writer of novels, short stories, history, social commentary, biography, and autobiography. His science fiction works include The Time MachineThe Island of Doctor MoreauThe Invisible ManThe War of the Worlds, and the military science fiction The War in the Air.

Known as a futurist, Wells foresaw the development of aircraft, tanks, space travel, nuclear weapons, satellite television and something resembling the World Wide Web.
