Writer’s Quote Wednesday: Will Durant


Will Durant (November 5, 1885 – November 7, 1981) was an American writer, philosopher, and historian. He earned his Ph.D. in philosophy from Columbia University and in 1926 published The Story of Philosophy which was described as “a groundbreaking work.”

Durant is best known for his 11-volume The Story of Civilization which he wrote in collaboration with his wife Ariel and which was published between 1935 and 1975. For their work the Durants received the Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction in 1968 and were awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1977.
