A socially distanced porch picnic

We hadn’t seen grandson Ben and his parents since Christmas, so what a surprise when our daughter phoned to say she and Ben were coming (this past Monday) for a short, socially distanced visit! They drove for over two hours just to get here, visited for about three hours, and then drove for over two hours to get back home in time for Ben to play baseball with his socially distanced, sanitized ball team.

Our daughter works for an international corporation and has been able to work from home during this difficult time, but Monday was a furlough day for her. Our son-in-law goes in to work two or three days a week now and couldn’t come because he was working.

Ben and his mom took extraordinary care when they were here, as both my husband and I (but especially my husband) are at high risk for serious complications should we contract COVID-19. We have a covered porch that runs the entire length of the front of the house. They sat at one end, and we sat at the other, and we all ate lunch and had a wonderful time visiting.

Our daughter took this selfie, and you can see me and my husband in the background.

On the way home they drove by one of Ben’s favorite places, the campus of the University of North Georgia (formerly North Georgia College).

And when they got home, his team won the baseball game. Yay!
