For Ukraine

Ever since the full-scale war began in Ukraine, my prayers and my heart have been with Ukraine, President Zelenskyy, and the Ukrainian people.

I’m just a 70-year-old grandmother with a little Ukrainian ancestry, living in the rural south in the U.S., and there’s not much I can do except give my heart and prayers.

But I do contribute every month to United24 (u24.gov.ua) , the global initiative to support Ukraine that was launched in 2022 by President Zelenskyy. It has now raised USD 288 million, and I know my small contributions are going for defense (such as the purchase of drones), for medical aid (such as the purchase of ambulances and electrical generators for hospitals), and the rebuilding of homes and infrastructure.

Every day at the time of sundown in Kiev, I sing the Hashkiveinu prayer (see below) that God will spread his shelter of protection over President Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people.

I follow President Zelenskyy’s official Instagram account and know the news from Ukraine before it’s ever reported in the U.S. As a former History teacher, I have studied and taught the history of Ukraine. I’m trying to learn the Ukrainian language. And I will wear this pendant close to my heart every day until this war is over.

I don’t personally know anyone else in my little corner of the world who is as passionate about this as I am. But there are people all over the world who are, including many celebrities who have become official ambassadors for United24. The Ukrainian people are true heroes, and I will support them as long as it takes for them to win this war.

Hashkiveinu

I just heard this song, Fighter, for the first time today, and this is for you, Ukraine.

Слава Україні !! Героям слава!!

Though I have no relationship with Ukraine, I almost always end up my posts with:

And I’m not sure everyone in the West, except for Poland, Czech, Baltic republics (who’ve been there, done that) admit it. For many it’s “Ah. yeah. Over there.”
I really admire their courage and bravery…

        1. I think you’re right, but I hope you’re wrong. If Russia were to take Ukraine, all of Europe would be in grave danger.

Indeed. Though I sincerely don’t think it can. If shove comes to push, Poland, Finland and the Baltic states (to name a few) will join the fight. And others hopefully. 🤞🏻

I pray for Ukraine and have a scarf that I wear to local events to show my support of the Ukrainian people. It’s yellow and sky-blue. May Ukraine survive.

    1. Thank you, Alma. I also wear 2 bracelets in support of Ukraine and fly a garden flag at my house with the yellow and blue colors and the Ukrainian trident. If Russia were to take Ukraine, all of Europe would be in terrible danger. Slava Ukraini!
