I missed Week 10 due to the Thanksgiving holiday, but even now in Week 11 some of the leaves are still holding on. Last week all of the red leaves had fallen, but I was quite surprised this morning to see that some of the shrubs now have some red again mingled in with their…

Festival of Leaves, 2019 – Week 9 – Color on Yonah Mountain
We have what is called a seasonal view of Yonah Mountain here, meaning we can’t see it at all during the summer, but it’s lovely in the autumn and winter. I took these photos in the late afternoon today from just outside our front door. Again this autumn, Dawn at The Day After is hosting the weekly Festival…
Festival of Leaves, 2019 – Week 8 – Reaching Their Peak
I missed Week 7 of Dawn’s Festival of Leaves as my husband had another stroke this past week. He is home now and doing okay, but I feel I must stay close by and shouldn’t yet even walk down the road to take photos. So I just stepped outside the back door to capture these…
Festival of Leaves, 2019 – Week 6 – A Colorful View
The view from our back deck is finally becoming colorful, and I took a few photos early this morning. What a pretty sight! Again this autumn, Dawn at The Day After is hosting the weekly Festival of Leaves challenge. You can see her autumn leaves or join the challenge here.
Festival of Leaves, 2019 – Week 5 – My Favorite Color
A rough week led to my missing Week 4 of the autumn leaves challenge, but I’m back for Week 5. It’s sourwood trees again, but now they’re changing from mottled red to my favorite color. I don’t know how to describe this color other than it’s an orange tone. I just know that I think…
Festival of Leaves, 2019 – Week 2 – Scuppernong Vines and Tulip Poplars
Since last week the moderate drought here in North Georgia has become worse, and daytime temperatures hover around 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celcius; it sounds so much worse in Fahrenheit, doesn’t it?). Nonetheless the leaves are beginning to change. There’s a little bit of yellow now in the Scuppernong (a type of wild grape)…
Festival of Leaves 2018: Week #1
Again this autumn, Dawn at The Day After is hosting the weekly Festival of Leaves challenge. She lives in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, and like here in Georgia, the leaves there are only beginning to change colors. While driving down the highway I’ve seen a few red sumac leaves, and the dogwoods are showing a…

Festival of Leaves 2017: Week #1
This autumn, Dawn at The Day After is hosting the weekly Festival of Leaves challenge. She lives in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia where the leaves are already showing more color than here in Georgia. So far, the most brilliant color here has been on our maple tree. Even so, only a few leaves on the…
We still have color !
We’re in a severe drought here in Northeast Georgia and also have had unseasonably warm weather. Maybe those are the reasons we still have brilliant autumn color in mid-November. Many trees have not yet lost their leaves, so leaf clean-up may continue into December. Leaves by Elsie N. Brady How silently they tumble down…
