Catesby’s Trillium

Catesby’s trillium (Trillium catesbaei) is a wildflower native to the Southeastern United States.   Among its common names is Bashful Wakerobin because the blossom hides beneath three leaflets, making it more difficult to spot from above the plant.   It grows in woody areas, and yesterday we spotted it in our back garden!
